The classical form of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. In the gi — the traditional kimono — you'll learn grips, guards, escapes, and submissions that have shaped the sport for over a century.
Foundation Gi is where every journey begins at Imperial Ground. Over a one-year cycle, you'll move through a structured curriculum covering positional hierarchy (mount, side control, back, guard), the fundamental submissions (armbars, chokes, kimuras), and the escapes that keep you safe when things go wrong.
You don't need to be athletic. You don't need to be young. You don't need to have done martial arts before. What you do need is a willingness to fall, stand up, and try again — Jiu-Jitsu rewards consistency, not ego.
Never stepped on a mat? This is your class. We pair you with training partners who'll walk you through everything. No experience required.
Back after a break? Foundation Gi is the perfect ramp-up. Rebuild your base, fix technique drift, reconnect with fundamentals.
Judo, wrestling, Muay Thai background? Come learn how BJJ's ground game layers onto what you already know.
